I, Rino Giannini, am born in Pietrasanta, Italy the 10th April 1939.

1951 Practice of marble technical design in professional studio.

1953 I decided to dedicate my time to Sculpture, changing my courses of study to the "Stagio Stagi Art Institute" in Pietrasanta. I was admitted to the sculpture workshop of the Pasquini Brothers. In the following years, perfected my marble carving techniques.

1956 Received diploma from the Art Institute and entered a sculptors training course at "Santoli e Rovai" studio.

1962 Opening of my marble studio at Crispi square in Pietrasanta, later collaborating with S.I.C.E.A. Marble Company.

1964 From "Diamant Boart Company" I received the first prototypes an elettrolycallyplated diamond cutting disk, for use with a hand held saw. At the same time under my Idea, I propose many experiments with marble cutting technology, among these compressed air turbines. That changed the way to carved stones.

1965 I proposed to a friend, Renzo Giannoni, the construction of an enlarging instrument, to use with a model, for realisation of monumental sculptures. During this period I collaborated on enlarging projects with artists such as Tommaso Gismondi, Tony Smith, Joseph De Lauro and Emilio Ambron.

1970 I was a founding Member of C.A.M.P. a cooperative of Traditional artists in Pietrasanta, remaining on the board of directors for succeeding years. Sculptures from my models or typical of Apuo Versiliese traditional carving include: "Lead Sphere", from a model by Tony Smith; now at Modern Art Museum in New York. Four female figures for the Museum Cemetery of Staglieno, at Genoa. A bust of Pope John XXIII, an 8 ft. high portrait figure of Father Pio for Salerno Monastery. Two groups of Angels, in marble and the last supper, a bronze bass relief, for St. Paolino first Viareggio Church. Teenagers at the mirror in travertino Marble, and Budda rosso a french red Marble head. Relief white marble Horse figure, bougth by Lucca chamber of commerce. Bust portrait of "Father Ciampicon" placed on the old church of Servants of Mary, Massa.

1974 As organiser and exhibitor at the open air sculpture show, "Artisti e Artigiani in un Centro Storico" at Pietrasanta.

1976 Exhibition at the Italia Cultural Centre in Chicago for the Bicentennial. the same year I was appointed to a teaching position the Sculpture department at Academy of Fine Art, Carrara. Position held until 1995.

1977 Grand prize Santa Croce by the "Cenacolo" Art Gallery, of Florence.

1978 By appointment of the Academy of Fine Arts, worked for the organisation of the trade fair "Marmo Macchine" in Carrara. Later I facilitated the expansion of the Sculpture Department at the Academy.

1979 Appointed as Art Director of the first Sculpture Symposium in marble at Carrara, "Scolpire all'Aperto" that position I held until 1984.

1983 More of my work on Academy I start to teach in restoration courses. That courses were held at Carrara in 1983 and 1987, at Pietrasanta 1992.

1984 Consultant in valuation of Modigliani sculpture head, found in Leghorn.

1986 Invited to the "Festival de la Sculpture" in Aubagne, France on the recommendation of Pierre Restany, my work stand on the city hall.

1989 Commissioned to create a marble portrait of Federico Milkovic. Founder of U.I.L.D.M. which was placed in Padua.

1991 I served as technical consultant and photographer for the video film "come nasce una Scultura" (how a sculpture is born); sponsored by the "Luigi Russo Cultural Center" at Pietrasanta. For the film I carved "Pegaso Scosso" a white marble horse.

On follow years I was working on my new studio, under name "Scuola Superiore di Scultura di Pietrasanta". At the same times I've served as Juror and edited catalogues for sculpture exhibitions as: "Tra Fiume e Mare" in Bocca Di Magra, "Marmi Al Forte" at Forte dei Marmi, "Sculture al Mirteto" at Ortonovo, "Omaggio al Giappone" Viareggio, "La Scuola e la Scultura" at Pietrasanta.

Further Carrara and Aubagne, I carved in symposiums include Caorle, Venice. Teulada, Sardinian 1994-1995. Maalot, Israel, "The Galile Stone Festival. Quarto e Villagrande, both Sardinian island. Linguaglossa in Sicily. Cordoba, Spain, Carlos Primero Symposium. Further I was invited in tree exhibitions on the church museum of Santa Croce, Florence.

Articles have been published on italian, u.s.a., English, French, japanese and Corean magazine. I was awarded a commission for a three bass relief; part of a monument depicting the ancient system of transporting marble from the quarries to the sea and shipping from Forte dei Marmi.

On the last three years I was invited in U.S.A. to complete a John Rutledge marble portrait and following for the unveiling of Henry Laurens marble portrait done by me and placed in the Fire proof Bouilding at Charleston.

Aside from marble I work in terracotta, wood, bronze and other material. My style range from abstract to figurative. Traditional experiences add a collaborations with international artists and environments make me an expert in marble sculpture with wide perspective.

In the year 2000 I have participated at the Symposium of "Carlos III" of Fuente Palmera in Cordoba, Spagna.

In the August of year 2001 I have participated at the Symposium "The 3rd International Symposium Aley 2001 of Sculpture" taked place to Aley (Beyrut) in Libano (under the aegis of the UNESCO).

In March 2002 the Foundation Fineschi of Prato has included in its archive a my drawing (Emersione) and the CD-Rom with my curriculum vitae and photos of my art-works.

In May 2002 I have been invited at the "Cultural May of Dramas" in Greece to participate at the Symposium of Sculpture dedicated to the Macedonia's dolomite (material very similar to marble of Carrara but more hard and containing magnesium, with the formula CaCo2Co3). The sculpture that I have realised "Il viaggio infinito" has been collocated in the hall of the Prefecture of the town.
